London Home Manager Named National Care Awards Finalist!

Nitin Paupiah, Home Manager at The Manse Residential Care Home in South Norwood, has been named a finalist in the Care Home Manager of the Year category of the National Care Awards.

The shortlisting recognises Nitin's commitment to creating a home where residents continue to pursue their interests, influence decisions and play an active role in how their home is run. Under his leadership, residents help interview prospective staff, lead meetings, shape projects within the home and maintain strong links with the local community.

Residents chair residents' and relatives' meetings, lead clubs, and recently took ownership of a garden refurbishment project, designing the space, selecting plants and growing produce, which was used in the home's kitchen. Β

When Nitin learned resident Douglas Murphy had worked as a journalist, he encouraged him to become editor of the home's newsletter. Douglas now interviews residents and colleagues, writes articles and edits each edition, describing the opportunity as giving him "presence, meaning and purpose in life". Β

Residents at the not-for-profit home have also been supported to establish an art group, exhibit their work locally and take part in activities ranging from hydrotherapy swimming sessions to community events through partnerships with organisations including Age UK and local arts groups.

Nitin said:

I am truly honoured and humbled to be shortlisted. This nomination means so much to me because it reflects the dedication, compassion, and hard work of the incredible team I am privileged to work alongside.

Caring for our residents and supporting their families is more than a profession; it is a privilege that I hold close to my heart.

Throughout my career, I have always believed that great care is about more than meeting needs. It is about building meaningful relationships, preserving dignity, promoting independence, and creating a true sense of home. Every resident has a unique story, and I am passionate about ensuring that their voices are heard, their choices are respected, and their lives are enriched every day.

Alongside supporting residents, Nitin is known for championing staff development and career progression, helping colleagues build confidence, develop new skills and progress into leadership roles.

The winners of the National Care Awards will be announced at a ceremony in London in November.
